This is a fascinating star forming region fairly nearby, all things considered. Visible to the naked eye, it’s the middle “star” in Orion’s sword. With a bit of focal length, all of this becomes visible.
The challenge with most astrophotography is amplifying the dim signal up enough without introducing too much noise. With this target, the problem is finding some way to capture all the dim details without washing out the sensor. The Trapezium cluster, (the bright stars in the center of this photo) are absolutely blinding, and I couldn’t get more than about 30 seconds of exposure before my camera started to wash out.
